Sir Gawain and the Green Knight (18 of 20)

Publication Date: June 30, 2010

Chapter: English Literature During The Middle Ages

Right, so, just a few pages after telling us that the Green Chapel was only two miles away, the Pearl Poet begins detailing a journey over several different landscapes which couldn't possibly be crammed into that length. I can only rationalize that this is yet another practical joke on the part of the Master. "What, the Green Chapel? Oh, sure, that place is only, um... two miles away! Yeah, that's it. Only a couple miles, man. Now let's make out."
